Overview

Working professionally across web development, photography, and now 3D printing, I wanted a business card that truly reflected my skills and interests. More than just contact details, I wanted something distinctive, a card that would stand out and be memorable at events and conferences.

Since I’ve invested a lot of time into building my portfolio, I also wanted an easy way to share it. Embedding an NFC tag in the card felt like the perfect solution: a simple tap instantly opens my portfolio on a smartphone.

To match the tech-driven concept, I went for a sleek, minimalist design with subtle futuristic elements.

Design and Printing

I based the card on standard business card dimensions (85 Ă— 55 mm) and made my name the focal point: large, bold, and immediately readable. To reinforce the technical aesthetic, I added a circuit-board-inspired texture across the background.

Using Autodesk Fusion 360 and primarily BambuLab Studio, I designed a piece that balances intricate detail with clean readability. The NFC tag is embedded directly inside the card, remaining invisible while allowing effortless scanning. During printing, I paused the process at the precise layer to insert the tag, ensuring it was securely sealed without compromising print quality.

A lot of time went into exploring color combinations to achieve a look that felt industrial, modern, and professional. After several tests, I settled on a palette that best matched my personal brand. The contrast between PLA Silk Copper and PLA Sparkle Black created a striking mix of smooth metallic shine and subtle textured depth.

The first prints revealed areas for improvement: readability, visual balance, and surface finish. I refined the typography, adjusted ironing (top-layer smoothing), and fine-tuned speed and temperature to sharpen details and enhance color vibrancy.

Initially, the cards featured Sparkle Black as the main color with copper and white accents. Reversing the palette turned out even better: Jade White as the base, with Copper Silk and Sparkle Black as highlights. Both versions captured the modern, tech-inspired feel I was aiming for while remaining clean and practical.

To complete the presentation, I also printed an available display stand twice, using the same color schemes. This created a cohesive, polished look and tied the entire project together visually.

Publishing and Sharing

After finalizing the design and printing, I shared the project on MakerWorld to reach a wider audience and share my work, making it available for anyone who wanted to customize it and print their own. The platform allowed me to showcase the card’s features, share insights into the design and printing process, and connect with other makers interested in similar projects.
